The Intern In the movie "The Intern", 70-year-old Brooklyn man Ben Whittaker has been retired for quite some time. After his wife Molly died, he attempted to occupy himself with traveling, golf, cooking lessons, yoga, pinochle, and attend ing plenty of funerals. But not having a precise schedule has left a giant hole in his life that desperately needs to be filled. When he observes an opportunity for a Senior Internship Program with the company About the Fit, an ecommerce fashion startup in existence for only 18 months, he excitedly sub mits the necessary application and video introduction. After a few awkward interviews ("Where do you see yourself in ten years?"), Ben is hired for the position. He is more than qualifi ed to serve as an assistant to tough-as-nails founder and CEO Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway), who is obligated to keep the intern around for a minimum of six weeks. And Jules' unpleasantness increases when her advisors and investors urge her to consider hiring a more experienced executive officer to handle the company's lightning-fast expansion and rapid customer influx. Routinely working through the misadventures of a bustling office space , Ben clash es with the others regarding age. At first, he i s out-of-place and underutilized, but soon enough he goes beyond to improve the lives of his coworkers and become the best intern. Ben becomes acquainted with Jules as they meet for the first time. This is stage one : acquaintance . Stage two , the build-up stage, would be when the two of them start working together which caus es Ben to start driving Jules around. Stage three , which is the continuing stage, comes to be when Ben is welcomed to spending time with Jules daughter Paige . He is allowed more interaction with the entire family giving Jules the trust she desperately needs. Stage four would have to be when Jules asks Cameron to transfer Ben to another department in the company. The deterioration stage should be when Ben is transferred and Jules realizes this after the fact. Desp erately needing him for everyday knowledge, Jules tracks him down and asks him to come back. T h i s w o u ld be the turning point of the relationship and Jules works quickly to resolve this issue. The generation gap of this movie is both dramatical and comical simultaneously. One example is when Jules walk ed Ben through the steps of populating his Facebook profile. Another example would be when Ben explained his reason for always carrying a handkerchief. Wearing a suit to work every day is another example of the generation gap due to the casualness of others at the workplace. There are more examples from the movie but these here are just a select few. The type of small group this company is should be e xplain ed by referring to the group climate which is a very relaxed , a very fast paced company. With this climate , the cohesion of the workforce is remarkable in that respect. They are a very close knit staff, undoubtedly accepting Jules as their leader. The organizational culture is something that most companies do not possess which is a relaxed environment regarding the staff performing their jobs. Each member 's roles are clear throughout the movie with respect to their roles within the company . In the beginning of the movie, Ben had to endure an application process to successfully ge t hired as "The Senior Intern". To d escrib e this process , Ben had to record himself digitally and submit his video file to company . This type of application process was appropriate in the movie for the intended interviewees , but today, this would make the interviewee feel less wanted and put off . No one wants to ever interview for a job let alone interview themselves and then send a movie to a prospective employer.
