The Year of the Sheep - Hitsuji doshi

2015 is the year of the sheep. The Japanese word for sheep is hitsuji. The kanji character for sheep came from the shape of a sheeps head with two horns, four legs and a tail. Click here to learn the kanji character for sheep. Lamb is kohitsuji, shepherd is hitsujikai, wool is youmou. Sheep are rare in Japan since the climate of Japan, which is very humid, is not appropriate to raise sheep. Most wool and mutton are imported from Australia, New Zealand or Taiwan. The sheeps bleat is mee mee. Click this link to learn more about animal sounds. The Japanese have a custom of sending New Year Cards, called Nengajou. Most people use nengajou as sold by the Japan Postal Service. Each nengajou has a lottery number printed on the bottom of the card, and people who receive the cards can win prizes. The winning numbers are usually published in mid January. Although the prizes are rather small, people enjoy it as a part of New Years celebrations. The designs include New Years decorations, an eto animal (sheep in 2015), Disney characters, and so on. One of the stamp designs, which is a picture of a sheep, is becoming the talk of the Internet. Eto refers to the Chinese zodiac symbols. Unlike the Western Zodiac, which is divided into 12 months, the Asian Zodiac is divided into 12 years. Therefore, the last time a sheep appeared as an eto was in 2003. The stamp of 2003s negajou was a picture of a sheep, which is knitting. The picture of the sheep on 2015s stamp is wearing a scarf. There is an explanation on the Japanese Postal Service site that says, ç · ¨Ã£  ¿Ã£ â€¹Ã£ â€˜Ã£   Ã£  £Ã£ Å¸Ã£Æ'žãÆ'•ãÆ' ©Ã£Æ' ¼Ã£ Å'Ã¥ ®Å'æˆ Ã£ â€"㠁 ¾Ã£ â€"㠁Ÿã€‚ Amikake datta mafuraa ga kansei shimashita. (The scarf, which was in the middle of being made twelve years ago, is now finished.) This is the first time that the Japanese Postal Service made a design linked with a previous eto animal. They are hoping that people have fun with this year’s nengajou, and also fondly look back on the time that has passed. Like the astrological zodiac there are all sorts of things which influence individual people. The Japanese believe that people who are born in the same animal year share similar personality and character. People born in the year of the sheep are elegant, highly accomplished in the arts, passionate about nature. Check what year you were born in and what kind of personality your animal sign has. Twelve zodiac animals are the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and boar. Compared to the other zodiac animals such as the snake (hebi) or horse (uma), there are not many expressions including the word sheep. Hitsuji no you (like sheep) means docile, sheepish. In New England, Congregational Church grew into one of the biggest movements of religion, literature and philosophy as a reform in the early nineteenth-century in American history. A group of people including former Unitarian ministers made American transcendentalism started its transformation of the American intellect. These people wanted to reform the church because they saw it as a social religion which did not awake the individual’s realization of his own spirituality. These transcendentalists tried to urge their ideas of the significance of the self in spiritual life. American transcendentalism reached its peak in New England in the 1840s under the leadership of Ralph Waldo Emerson. He emphasized the fact that people should believe in th eir thoughts and never hesitate to share it with others rather than keep it just because they were afraid of being misunderstood. Obama also referred to this significant point of Self- Reliance in his inaugural speech and stated, â€Å"We understand that greatness is never a given. It must be earned. Our journey has never been one of the shortcuts or settling for less. It has not been the path for the faint-hearted ¬Ã‚ ¬ for those who prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame.† (5). He used the word â€Å"faint-hearted† to highlight the fact that people must not be coward and share their individual thoughts with the world without any fear. He encouraged the audience and urged them that they must be brave in order to earn the greatness. According to this context, a person who does not act upon his or her own thoughts and ideals is an individual who fails to be self-reliant; therefore, he or she is out of God’s purpose. The economy, trends, cultures, and habits in each region are taken into consideration in the planning function. When planning, corporate must consider the economy in each region, which is why one region may have a different monthly special than another. Organizing all of this also falls into the planning phase, because everything needs planned with individual marketing material, and training materials. Keeping up with the current technology for instance, helps to keep their locations running smoothly and efficiently. When you look at the four functions of management as a whole, it is easy to notice that not only does each function interlock, but also the organizing function interlocks with both planning and leading. In order to maintain uniform locations that are all kept up to franchise standards systems must be put in place. This is also an excellent chance to provide front line support on location where it is needed most. I think in this function factors such as diversity and ethnics have a tremendous impact. Because these require so much interaction, these factors must be considered. For example, if the regional representative shows up for the monthly sales and promotions meeting or for the inspection to all-Spanish speaking location there would be major communication issues. To address this all regional representatives are custom chosen for the areas they cover. These are the locations linked to corporate, and their leaders to keep in compliance. Because diversity and ethnics can encompass so much it is essential for management to know how to work with both. For example, management can assign a task to any employee, but if that employee does not have that skill to complete the task in the end, the results are less than desirable. Because of this management must need to know how to assign tasks and work with the diversity they have in the employees. Ethnics on the other hand should be uniform and level throughout the organization, because it aligns management and all personnel within the company in behaviors, and values. Ethnics also play a major role in public relations, because the organization’s ethnics reflect the image the public has of them. This is all brought together with the controlling function of management. Monitoring the entire organization, developing new ideas, and applying changes happen here. This includes monitoring sales, controlling costs, and adjusting as needed. If a promotion in a certain region is performing badly, then marketing may be tasked with analyzing that market again to see if a different promotion or strategy would work better there. Cost control would be monitored with the control function, things such as logistics, internal communications, purchasing, and human resources all need to be overseen and adjusted as market and profits allow or demand. To summarize internal and external factors such as globalization, technology, innovation, diversity, and ethnics affect almost every aspect of any organization. From the top of CEO of the organization down to the front line managers, these factors affect both on a daily basis. When making decisions all these things must be considered and applied to the specific market or situation. Just as the point of sale manager must consider diversity when making decisions about assignments, and day-to-day operations so must the upper level executive when dealing with the diversity place upon him when dealing with shareholders, or other organizational officers. Globalization affects just about any organization in existence as well. With digital age comes the need to compete not only with the local influences and factors, but with global as well. Technology and innovation I do not think can be ignored or escaped in any organization today. Again, with the digital age so many people rely on social applications and similar venues for marketing and development that to ignore this be a serious error. Depending on the organization, these functions are necessary for some. The world has become too competitive to not monitor these and keep up with one’s competition. The Intern In the movie "The Intern", 70-year-old Brooklyn man Ben Whittaker has been retired for quite some time. After his wife Molly died, he attempted to occupy himself with traveling, golf, cooking lessons, yoga, pinochle, and attend ing plenty of funerals. But not having a precise schedule has left a giant hole in his life that desperately needs to be filled. When he observes an opportunity for a Senior Internship Program with the company About the Fit, an ecommerce fashion startup in existence for only 18 months, he excitedly sub mits the necessary application and video introduction. After a few awkward interviews ("Where do you see yourself in ten years?"), Ben is hired for the position. He is more than qualifi ed to serve as an assistant to tough-as-nails founder and CEO Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway), who is obligated to keep the intern around for a minimum of six weeks. And Jules' unpleasantness increases when her advisors and investors urge her to consider hiring a more experienced executive officer to handle the company's lightning-fast expansion and rapid customer influx. Routinely working through the misadventures of a bustling office space , Ben clash es with the others regarding age. At first, he i s out-of-place and underutilized, but soon enough he goes beyond to improve the lives of his coworkers and become the best intern. Ben becomes acquainted with Jules as they meet for the first time. This is stage one : acquaintance . Stage two , the build-up stage, would be when the two of them start working together which caus es Ben to start driving Jules around. Stage three , which is the continuing stage, comes to be when Ben is welcomed to spending time with Jules daughter Paige . He is allowed more interaction with the entire family giving Jules the trust she desperately needs. Stage four would have to be when Jules asks Cameron to transfer Ben to another department in the company. The deterioration stage should be when Ben is transferred and Jules realizes this after the fact. Desp erately needing him for everyday knowledge, Jules tracks him down and asks him to come back. T h i s w o u ld be the turning point of the relationship and Jules works quickly to resolve this issue. The generation gap of this movie is both dramatical and comical simultaneously. One example is when Jules walk ed Ben through the steps of populating his Facebook profile. Another example would be when Ben explained his reason for always carrying a handkerchief. Wearing a suit to work every day is another example of the generation gap due to the casualness of others at the workplace. There are more examples from the movie but these here are just a select few. The type of small group this company is should be e xplain ed by referring to the group climate which is a very relaxed , a very fast paced company. With this climate , the cohesion of the workforce is remarkable in that respect. They are a very close knit staff, undoubtedly accepting Jules as their leader. The organizational culture is something that most companies do not possess which is a relaxed environment regarding the staff performing their jobs. Each member 's roles are clear throughout the movie with respect to their roles within the company . In the beginning of the movie, Ben had to endure an application process to successfully ge t hired as "The Senior Intern". To d escrib e this process , Ben had to record himself digitally and submit his video file to company . This type of application process was appropriate in the movie for the intended interviewees , but today, this would make the interviewee feel less wanted and put off . No one wants to ever interview for a job let alone interview themselves and then send a movie to a prospective employer.
